The pill of patience, some of us ignore it, many of us overdose on it, and the best of people take when they need it. The irony of this so called pill is that not only does it keep one in control, it also ignores the envy, its the art of controlling one’s anger to a certain degree of calmness when life hits us with tough complications and calamities. However, before we swallow this pill, the majority of us ask this “beautiful” question, “why me?”. These 2 words can transform our entire mind and peace into a selfless monster. A monster which is hit with pain, pain which effects emotional health, physical health, social health, mental health, environmental health and most importantly our spiritual health.
It all starts from our spiritual health. If our spiritual health is at a level where we put all of our trust and faith in Allah. The outcome will be beautiful inshallah. Because he is the best of planners. The quranic verse states, “Those before them did (also) devise: but in all things the master- planning is Allah’s He knoweth the doings of every soul; and soon will the unbelievers know who gets home in the end.” (13:42)
This world for many is a comfy home but the irony is that it was constructed with the entire purpose to hurt us and test our faith. It’s this grand illusion of calamities and complications which puts us in the predicaments from which the outcome defines us a Muslim. We live in the era of Delusions. Our role models have shifted to modern day “artists” who live a life of drugs, sex, and money. These short term solutions only give us peace for a moment. Until we ask for a heavier dose. Even if we were involved in these experiences. Ask forgiveness because Allah is also the best of forgivers. He constantly tests our faith to see how much do we love him. How much do we trust him, how much are we willing to sacrifice for the sake of Allah. Insteading of seeking answers in this Dunya, say alhamdulillah, cry for his mercy.
Now to enlighten this subject of patience, the Prophet peace be upon him went through endless calamities. From losing his loved ones from a very young age, to leaving his home, to putting rocks on his stomach so his hunger wouldn’t distract him from his ultimate goal. Which was to please Allah and spread the message. The message of Islam which is portrayed in shape of a book today so that muslims like me and you, who can relate and get our answers through that holy book.
From all of this we learn one very important thing. The art of being grateful. Grateful for the smallest things which may not hold value until we lose them. From having the ability to speak, hear, walk, stand, spread the message of islam to eating amazing tayyab (healthy), a bed to sleep on, a musallah to cry on and even if you don’t have these things, just be grateful for being a muslim, be grateful for this fruit we call life. Because one day, believe it or not, it will all end leaving nothing but dust behind.
Assalamualaikum.
